Oil dual-fuel heating

Keep Your Oil Furnace. Let a Heat Pump Do the Work.

Not ready to part with your oil furnace? You do not have to. We add a heat pump that becomes your main heating and cooling, while your existing oil furnace stays as backup for the coldest hours. You keep what you trust and run it far less.

Heating and Cooling Equipment Installation Clear Written Scope

How This Works

The heat pump carries your home through most of the season with a steady, even warmth. Your existing oil furnace stays right where it is and only steps in on the coldest hours. Most of the time it sits quiet while the heat pump does the work, so the furnace you already trust runs far less than it used to.

We install a heating-and-cooling coil on top of your existing furnace, plus an outdoor heat pump. We do not service the oil furnace itself, and we do not remove your oil tank. The furnace and tank stay in place and simply work less, while your new heat pump becomes your main heating and cooling.

What We Install, and What We Leave Alone

We add only two things: the heating-and-cooling coil that sits on top of your existing furnace, and the outdoor heat pump that becomes your main source. We do not service the oil furnace itself, and we do not remove the oil tank. Both stay in place and keep working as your backup for the coldest hours.

What We Install

  • The outdoor heat pump that becomes your main heating and cooling for most of the season
  • The heating-and-cooling coil placed on top of your existing oil furnace
  • The thermostat connection that lets the heat pump and furnace hand off cleanly, never both at once
  • The refrigerant lines inspected for size and condition, then set up for the new equipment
  • The lines cleared of air and moisture, checked for leaks, and filled to the amount the equipment calls for
  • The outdoor temperature where the furnace takes over, set the way you choose, which we explain in plain terms
  • Any electrical work the heat pump needs, identified and explained before you approve anything
  • The startup readings recorded so you know the system is running as it should
  • A clear written scope that spells out what we install and what stays with your oil furnace

When Keeping Your Oil Furnace Makes Sense

Reasons homeowners keep the oil furnace as backup
What you wantHow this fits
To run the oil furnace far lessThe heat pump carries the home most of the season, so the furnace runs only on the coldest hours instead of all winter.
To keep the furnace you trustYour oil furnace stays in place as the backup. We add the coil and the heat pump; we do not touch the furnace or the tank.
Cooling you may not have todayThe same outdoor heat pump cools your home in summer, so you get air conditioning along with the heating.
Extra warmth on the deep-cold nightsOn the coldest hours the oil furnace makes hotter air than the heat pump, so it is there for the few truly cold mornings.

This fits a home with an oil furnace in good shape and room for the new equipment. Before we promise anything, we confirm it fits your exact furnace and your home.

How the Handoff Happens

The thermostat decides which source runs based on the outdoor temperature where the furnace takes over, the point we set with you. Above that point the heat pump handles the home on its own. Below it, the oil furnace steps in for the coldest hours. You get one or the other, never both at once, and you can tell us to lean the handoff toward cost or toward comfort. A plain note: heat pump air is steadier and cooler than the oil blast, and the furnace is there for the deep-cold nights if you want that extra warmth.

How the Work Is Planned

  1. We look at your furnace and your home

We check your existing oil furnace and the space around it, and confirm the coil and outdoor heat pump will fit. We do not commit to anything we have not checked for your home.

  2. You get the whole plan in writing

You see what we install, any electrical work, the thermostat setup and the sequence, with the written quote, before anything is ordered.

  3. We install the coil and the heat pump

We add the coil on top of your existing furnace and the outdoor heat pump, then set the thermostat so the two hand off cleanly. We do not service the oil furnace and we do not remove the tank.

  4. We check that everything runs right

We record the startup readings and walk you through the handoff setting, so you know when the heat pump carries the home and when the furnace steps in.

Questions About Oil Dual-Fuel Heating

We leave your existing oil furnace in place and add a heating-and-cooling coil on top of it, plus an outdoor heat pump. The heat pump becomes your main source and does the efficient heating most of the season. When it gets cold enough outside, your oil furnace steps in for the coldest hours. You keep the furnace you trust, and it runs far less than before.

No. The thermostat hands off cleanly from one to the other, so you get one or the other, never both at once. Which one runs is decided automatically by the outdoor temperature and the setting you choose.

Yes. One setting keeps the heat pump running longer to hold down cost, which can mean the coldest mornings lean on the heat pump a little before the furnace kicks in. The other brings the oil furnace in a touch sooner so the coldest hours feel warmer. It is your call, and we can change it anytime.

There is a proven way to keep an existing furnace as the backup, and an oil furnace typically uses the same basic thermostat connection. Before we promise anything, we confirm it fits your exact furnace and the new equipment, because we do not commit to something we have not checked for your home. Where it fits, your tank and furnace stay in place and simply work far less.

It depends on your home. Keeping the oil makes sense when your furnace is still in good shape, when you want a second heat source for the coldest nights, or when you want the resilience of a furnace that runs on a smaller generator. Many homes heating with oil are spending more than they need to, and we show you the real numbers for your home in person rather than giving you a one-size answer.

Usually not, or only a little, because your oil furnace is already your second heat source. That can actually simplify the electrical part of the job. We decide it based on your panel and your comfort priorities, and we explain the choice before any work begins.

It can, and that is one good reason to keep it. On the coldest hours an oil furnace makes hotter air than the heat pump, so some homeowners like having it for the deep-cold mornings. Most of the season the heat pump carries the house with its steady, even heat, and the furnace is there only for the few truly cold hours.

The ones we install do. Today's cold-climate heat pumps are built to heat through our winters, and many homes run one as the main system with the existing furnace left in place as backup for the very coldest nights. We size it for real Maryland weather, not a brochure.

Sometimes. Maryland has state and utility programs that can help with the cost of a high-efficiency heat pump, and they change from year to year. We will point you toward what might apply to your home and be upfront about what we can and cannot handle on the paperwork, so nothing gets promised that does not come through. We will tell you what your home qualifies for before you decide anything.

"I am generally cautious when hiring service technicians, as I prefer to handle equipment maintenance myself whenever possible. However, the team sent by Mora Heating & Air completely earned my trust. When my AC compressor failed during a recent heat wave, two other supposedly reputable companies immediately pressured us to buy an entirely new system. In contrast, the technicians from Mora Heating & Air did not attempt to upsell us. Instead, they provided a practical, targeted solution: replacing only the compressor and the crankcase heater. Choosing this route saved us a significant amount of money. I highly appreciate their honesty and professionalism, and I will certainly continue using their services in the future."

"Jay and Jacob were amazing getting my HVAC system operating correctly. Other companies probably would've said I need a new system but they took the time to diagnose the issues, addresses them, and went above and beyond getting the system in tip-top shape. They easily put 40 hours into the project to get it in order working well into the evenings and nights to ensure the home is comfortable. They will be my go-to for home services moving forward."
