Air-Source Heat Pump Installation in Germantown, MD

One heat pump heats your home in winter and cools it in summer. We look at what you have now, then lay out the heat pump we recommend, the settings and the backup heat, with the price, before you decide a thing. Call or text to get started.

Heating and Cooling Equipment Installation Clear Written Scope

Understanding Heat Pumps

A heat pump pulls heat out of the house in summer and pulls heat from the outdoor air in winter. One system, both jobs. The written scope spells out the backup heat and the settings we recommend. We do not take on geothermal or commercial systems.

The outdoor unit, the indoor coil or air handler and the settings all have to work together as one matched system. Swapping just the outdoor unit is not the whole story, and we will tell you why.

What the Installation Covers

We talk through whether repairing what you have still makes sense first. If a heat pump is the right call, the proposal names the matched indoor and outdoor equipment, the settings, the connections and the install work, so nothing is a surprise.

What This Covers

  • Review of the existing equipment information and compatible replacement options
  • An equipment match between the outdoor unit and the indoor coil or air handler
  • Equipment connections to suitable existing ducts within the agreed scope
  • The refrigerant lines (the copper lines that run between the indoor and outdoor units) checked for condition, size and compatibility with the new equipment
  • Connection to a compatible existing electrical supply within our scope
  • Removing air and moisture, testing for leaks and setting the refrigerant amount to the equipment instructions
  • Thermostat set up for heat pump operation, including backup heat settings
  • Permit and inspection requirements, including who handles each step, identified in the written scope
  • Completed operating checks and any limits explained

Repair or Replacement?

Decide from the equipment findings
FindingWhat We Discuss
A serviceable fault in otherwise sound equipmentThe repair, parts requirements and expected result.
A major component failureRepair options, any applicable manufacturer coverage and replacement options.
Repeated faults or poor comfortThe cause, equipment condition and whether replacement would address it.

The decision considers the diagnosis, equipment condition, repair history, parts and your comfort needs. Age alone does not settle it.

Equipment Options

An inverter compressor adjusts its output instead of running only at one fixed level. A side-discharge outdoor unit moves air out its side; it still needs the manufacturer clearances and service access. We explain the proposed model and its connection requirements.

How a Heat Pump Installation Runs

  1. We confirm replacement is the right answer

If the system can be repaired sensibly, we say so. A replacement quote follows a real diagnosis.

  2. We review the equipment combination

The proposed indoor and outdoor equipment and settings are checked for compatibility before ordering.

  3. You get the whole scope in writing

The written scope names the equipment, the connection work, permit requirements and the sequence before the old system is removed.

  4. We install and explain the operating checks

We explain the completed installation checks and any limits or further work needed.

Questions About Heat Pump Installation

It depends on the equipment match and condition. An outdoor-unit replacement must be assessed as part of the complete system.

A compatible natural-gas or propane furnace may support dual fuel. For an oil-heated home, we only consider a compatible heat-pump addition that retains the oil furnace; your oil provider handles all oil-furnace service.

Cold-weather performance varies by equipment and outdoor conditions. We explain the selected model and proposed backup heat without promising that every heat pump will cover every condition.

No. We assess existing airflow and identify any constraints, but new duct fabrication and duct replacement are outside our scope.

Sometimes. Maryland has state and utility programs that can help with the cost of a high-efficiency heat pump, and they change from year to year. We will point you toward what might apply to your home and be upfront about what we can and cannot handle on the paperwork, so nothing gets promised that does not come through. We will tell you what your home qualifies for before you decide anything.

The ones we install do. Today's cold-climate heat pumps are built to heat through our winters, and many homes run one as the main system with the existing furnace left in place as backup for the very coldest nights. We size it for real Maryland weather, not a brochure.

Bigger is not better. An oversized system short-cycles, leaves rooms uneven, and wears out early. The right size comes from your home, not a rule of thumb, so we measure instead of guessing. You end up with a system that is quiet, even, and matched to your house.

"Jay & his team are my goto for HVAC problems. Weather it's a small repair like replacing a capacitor or larger project like full system replacement. Jay and his team @ Mora Heating & Air do quality work at an affordable price but add top rated customer service that many large companies just can't & don't give."

"I am generally cautious when hiring service technicians, as I prefer to handle equipment maintenance myself whenever possible. However, the team sent by Mora Heating & Air completely earned my trust. When my AC compressor failed during a recent heat wave, two other supposedly reputable companies immediately pressured us to buy an entirely new system. In contrast, the technicians from Mora Heating & Air did not attempt to upsell us. Instead, they provided a practical, targeted solution: replacing only the compressor and the crankcase heater. Choosing this route saved us a significant amount of money. I highly appreciate their honesty and professionalism, and I will certainly continue using their services in the future."
