What Happens on an HVAC Service Call

Wondering what you are getting when you call? We come out, find out what is actually wrong with your AC, heat pump, ductless system or gas or propane furnace, and tell you what we found before you decide on any repair. No guessing, no pressure. Call or text and we will set it up.

The Short Answer

A Service Call Is a Paid Diagnostic Visit

We come out and get to the bottom of what is wrong with your AC, heat pump, ductless system or gas or propane furnace. We tell you what the visit covers up front. Your oil provider handles all oil-furnace work, and we do not take on commercial, geothermal or VRF systems.

1
Visit terms explained before approval
2
Readings taken before parts come off
3
Written scope before additional work
4
Nothing happens until you say go
The Straight Answer

Why the First Visit Is Paid

Finding the real problem is the work. Sometimes we confirm the fault on the spot, sometimes we find what still needs testing. Either way, you hear what we found, whether or not you go ahead with a repair.

Describing it over the phone helps us prepare, but it cannot tell us which part failed. We have to see the equipment to tie a repair to what is actually wrong, instead of guessing and charging you for the wrong fix.

The diagnostic scope and terms are explained before you agree to the visit. Further work requires a separate explanation and approval.

Share the symptoms, equipment type and any previous report when you contact us. That helps establish what the visit needs to address.

Straight Talk

Why We Will Not Price It Over the Phone

Similar symptoms can have different causes. Warm air, for example, may involve the thermostat, electrical components, airflow or refrigerant performance.

Low refrigerant

Low refrigerant can point to a leak or an incorrect fill. Testing helps us find the cause.

Failed capacitor

A failed capacitor can prevent a motor or compressor from starting. Electrical testing is needed to confirm it.

Outdoor unit will not start

We test the electrical switch and its wiring to find out why the outdoor unit is not starting.

Blocked coil or airflow

A dirty coil or restricted airflow can affect heat transfer and cooling performance.

Control board

Control-board symptoms can also involve power, wiring or sensors. Testing distinguishes the cause.

Thermostat or wiring

Sometimes the equipment is fine and the signal never reaches it. Worth ruling out first.

The assessment gives the repair recommendation a factual basis. We explain what was confirmed and what remains unresolved before you approve additional work.

The Visit

What Happens, Step by Step

1
The visit scope is explained first.Describe the symptoms and equipment. The diagnostic scope and terms are explained before you agree to a visit.
2
We ask what changed and when. A system that stopped overnight and a system that has been weakening for three weeks are two different problems. The history narrows it before a panel comes off.
3
We take readings before we take parts off.Electrical, temperature, refrigerant or airflow checks are selected for the symptoms and safe operating conditions. Any incomplete test is identified.
4
The findings and proposed work are explained. We explain what the checks support, what remains uncertain and the proposed next step. Additional work needs your approval.
5
We verify it, not just start it.After an approved repair, we check the relevant operation and explain the result, including any remaining concern or limit on testing.
Our Bias

We Repair Before We Replace

Where repair is reasonable, we explain that option. Replacement is considered against equipment condition, fault history, parts and your needs. Each proposed scope is a separate decision.

If you are holding a replacement quote from another company and it does not sit right, that is a different visit. See our second opinion on an HVAC quote.

After the Work

What Is Covered

Parts

Any applicable parts coverage depends on the component, manufacturer terms and equipment record. Coverage is checked for the proposed work, not assumed.

Where we stop

We do not do duct work. If the fault is in the ductwork we will say so and tell you what kind of contractor to call. Equipment age matters and we tell you plainly where yours stands.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

A description helps narrow the investigation. It does not establish the failed part or replace measurements.
No. Parts, further tests or a separately approved scope may be needed. We explain the next step.
No. A repair or replacement recommendation is a separate decision.
No. Your oil provider is responsible for oil-furnace diagnosis and service. We can assess compatible heat-pump equipment within our residential scope, with oil-system work kept separate.
We explain what was tested and what remains unresolved. An intermittent problem may need further observation or a separate diagnostic step.
It should identify the relevant observations and completed checks, the supported conclusion and any limits. Proposed work is explained separately for your decision.
A service call is a paid diagnostic visit, and we tell you what that covers before we come out. Past that, you see the work and the price in writing before anyone touches anything, so there are no surprises on the bill. Nothing happens until you say go.
No. We find what your system actually needs instead of selling you the biggest box we can. If a repair is the right call, we say so. If replacement is honestly the better long-term move, we explain why and leave the decision with you. That is the whole way we work.
