How a service call runs.
Every call follows the same steps, whether it is a repair in January or a check-up in April. This is what to expect, and what to hold us to.
You hear nothing until the system has been checked.
A guess sounds the same as an answer until the bill comes.
So we take readings off your equipment and compare them to what the maker says they should be. We look at how the air is moving. We check the electrical parts that fail most often. On heating, we check that it is burning safely and venting the way it should.
None of that takes long. Skipping it is how the wrong part gets replaced.
Then we tell you what we found, in plain words.
You hear what we checked, what it should have read, and what it actually read. If something needs explaining, we explain it. You should never say yes to work you do not understand.
Then you get the honest options:
Repair, and it will hold
A part failed, the rest of the system is sound, and fixing it puts things back to normal.
Repair, with a limit
The repair is worth doing, and something else is getting old. You hear what and roughly when, so the next decision is planned instead of forced.
Replacement is the real answer
The system is done, and you see why. This is the smallest of the three, and it should be.
You keep a record of every visit.
Photos of what we found and what we did. What was replaced. How the rest of the system looked.
Your equipment will last fifteen to twenty years and be worked on by several companies in that time. Most people cannot say what was done three years ago, because nobody handed them anything. With a record, your next visit starts with facts.
Things we will not do.
Tell you to replace it without showing you why
You will see the readings behind any replacement we recommend. If they do not support it, you will not hear it from us.
Add refrigerant and call it fixed
If your system is low, it is leaking somewhere. Topping it off without finding that leak means you pay twice for one problem.
Guess at gas pressure
It gets measured and set to what the maker calls for, every time, including on equipment somebody else installed.
Sell you a plan to get in the door
A maintenance plan should be worth it to you on its own. If it is not, you should not buy one.
When replacing it really is the answer.
It happens. A cracked heat exchanger cannot be repaired and is a safety problem. A failed compressor on old equipment can cost more than the system is worth. A system losing refrigerant through a leak nobody can reach wastes money every season.
When that is where we land, we say it plainly, we show you why, and we size the new system to your house instead of to whatever is on the truck.
What we do not do is decide that first and work backward.
Questions you should ask any company
How do I know if I am being sold a new system I do not need?
Ask what they checked. Someone telling you to replace a system should be able to say what they looked at, what the reading should have been, and what it actually was. If the only reason given is the age of the unit, that is a sales argument and not a diagnosis. Age by itself does not decide whether equipment is worth keeping.
Is it worth repairing an older system?
Often yes. Condition matters more than age. A system that was looked after can be worth repairing well past the age people expect. A neglected one may not be worth it at half that age. What it has been through tells you more than the year on the label.
Why does the same part keep failing?
Because something is causing it and nobody has found it yet. A part under strain wears out early. Put a new one in the same conditions and it wears out early too. Finding the cause is the only thing that ends the cycle.
Do you charge for the visit?
Yes, and you are told what it is before anyone comes out. It pays for the time to check the system properly instead of guessing at it.
Do you work on equipment you did not install?
Yes. Most of what we service was put in by someone else. A fair amount of what we find traces back to how it was installed years ago.
Tell us what your system is doing. We will find out why.
Or tell us what your system is doing
Send us the details and we will call you back. If the house is very hot or very cold right now, calling is faster.
